Sebastian's career started in London but he has lived and worked for many years in both Los Angeles and Sydney as well as frequent excursions in Europe. Growing up with both parents being established photographers he remarks..."its in the blood so to speak...I've always been involved with photography and I'm sure I always will be...luckily I've had the tremendous experience in our family of being surrounded by artists of all sorts. This has always been fun, very colourful and thought provoking." This seems to have remained a strong influence with him and manifest itself in a very instinctive approach to both his photography and films. In fact film, painting and sculpture he readily acknowledges as his strongest influences.

Sebastian studied at two London art schools. Hornsey art school now Middlesex University where he received a BA in Graphic Design and then the Royal College of Art where he received an MA in Film and Television. Since college he has worked in both the moving image and stills and remains committed and passionate about both mediums. He comments "increasingly I see little difference between working on a book, a film or a single image, undoubtedly one medium influences another however I would say that my earlier work in printmaking at Hornsey relates just as much to my way of thinking as anything else, yes I have a diverse portfolio but I have one set of eyes and I enjoy discovering new things regularly.

He remarks, "I think all good smudgers are after the same thing actually, It is not about taking the picture, but rather searching for something, it is an exploration, an adventure and like all good adventures we should never quite know where we are going, the art is in recognizing that something when it appears, however this is achieved. Sebastian is perhaps a part of the tradition of artists who through their work remind us and sometimes provoke us into an awareness of the poetry and truth which surrounds us and manifested itself in many forms. He maintains "a moment in time captured in an image can and should resonate somehow...it will have something to say..."this is very evident in Sebastian's images. With a wry smile he adds " and when it is not there one has to keep looking and keep shooting whatever time of day it is...

There are those who would say commercial photography may differ to fine art work in this respect. He comments on this by saying "yes a lot of it does differ after all a lot of it has become mediocre, however the best work from whoever and wherever, very collaborative or not will speak to you and resonate and I guarantee you its influence comes from the same alchemy...a good image is a good image...

Sebastian's commercial work has varied from still life, interiors, food, performance and portraiture. It is evident that the same passion for his subjects his painting with light and bold approach in inviting the unexpected is inherent in all that he does. He says "I always enjoy projects with commercial constraints, it is just a different starting point after all, working with different people is also part of the joy of being a photographer" and this is very evident from his many collaborations. Some of these include; Heals, Aero, Mathmos, Outer Limits, Full Blown Metals, the Villiers Brothers, Foster and Partners, John Miller and Partners, the Pocknell Studio, PaulDalyDesignStudio and lots of other designers, artists, chefs, book and magazine publishers.

It is also apparent that Sebastian will continue to tackle new subjects in his own enthusiastic and unique way.
